Security

How secure is my data?

All data being backed up is compressed and encrypted before leaving your Machine. Data is always stored this encrypted form. Traffic between Advanced Vault appliance and other devices is also encrypted.

Advanced Vault uses bank grade encryption technology. At no time will usernames, passwords or data be sent out over the Internet in unencrypted form.

If I choose to replicate my data offsite, where is my data kept?

You have two options for replication. 1) Replication to your own second appliance: Data is encrypted and securely transmited to your second device for offsite storage. 2) Replication to Advanced Vault data center: Your data is encrypted and securly transmited to our data center. You data is kept in a state-of-the-art military grade data center alongside the systems of several telephone and communications companies. This highly secure physical infrastructure includes several levels of access control and round-the-clock security officers.

Will the backup work through my firewall?

Advanced Vault replication software was designed to be firewall friendly.

Performance

Are my backups going to be fast?

Very Fast! Backups are multi threaded, uses advanced delta-blocking and compression technology to make your backups very quick.

Are my restores going to be fast? 

Yes! Restores are ultra fast! Select data and point-in-time you want to restore and instantly recover your data. If you're using the bare-metal recovery option, boot your device from Advanced Vault bootable CD, follow the instructions to perform a bare-metal reocvery and restore an entire server in minutes.

Will it slow down my machines?

No. The Advanced Vault software is capable of CPU throttling management which suspends the backup when the machine is in use.  And since we backup the files as they change, the amount of data being sent through is kept to a minimum. Most people can't tell a backup is in progress.

Does Advanced Vault offer file compression and delta-block transfer?

Yes, all data is encrypted and compressed before it leaves a computer. Built-in compression and delta-block level transfer dramatically reduces storage requirements, shortens backup time becuase only changed blocks are transfferd.

How it works?

How is the first backup done, given that there will be a lot of data?

For large data volumes, the initial backup may take 1 to 2 hours per machine and can be scheduled. After the initial backup is complete, future backups, which are purely incremental, will be transmitted and synchronized with your initial backup data at high speeds.

Do backups have file versioning?

Yes. You can configure the number of versions you wish to keep as well as the amount of time between new versions. Through the simple interface, you can restore any available version of the file. Those versions may cover a month or a year's worth of changes. It all depends on how you configure the backup.

Do versions take up a lot of storage space?

Not really. Before we backup a new version of a file, we compare it to the previous version and only backup the data that changed. So if you have a 50MB mail file, and then receive 10KB worth of new messages, we only backup the 10KB that changed.

Does Advanced Vault perform incremental backups?

Yes, after the first complete backup, we will only backup the changed delta blocks of a changed file instead of re-backing up the entire file. This tremendously speeds up the backup process, reduces storage, and reduces bandwidth.

What are the backup scheduling options?

Advanced Vault provides extensive scheduling options from continuous backups, weekly, daily, every few minutes and many other options.

What happens if a backup is interrupted or fails in the middle of a job?

Advanced Vault continues to self-heal until job is completed. Backups are resumed from the point of last point.

Does Advanced Vault support backing up remote office, branch offices and mobile users with laptops?

Yes, Advanced Vault can from a central location backup your main office as well remote and branch offices.

Does Advanced Vault offer centeralized management?

Yes, Advanced Vault provides an easy to use management console than can manage multiple machines and all related backup functions.

Does Advanced Vault require agent installation on each machine?

Yes, Advanced Vault agent installation is required on every machine you wish to protect. Once the agent is installed, all management is centralized through the management console.

What happens if I have a large sum of initial data to move offsite for replication?

This is not a problem. You can copy the initial base bakcup onto a local drive to be transported to a remote location. Keep in mind that ongoing incrementals are significanly smaller and can be easily replicated offsite using a DSL, cable or T1 internet connection.

What if my Internet connection goes out during offsite replication?

Not a problem. The Advanced Vault client will automatically try to reconnect until the Internet connection is restored and continue a backup from the point where it stopped.

Can Advanced Vault have any limtations with diffrent platforms?

At this time, Advanced Vault bare metal recovery feature is limited to computers running Windows operating systems.

Does Advanced Vault backup Microsoft SQL and Exchange?

Yes. Advanced Vault has the ability to backup both of these applications without interrupting services.

How does Advanced Vault compare to the competition (Unitrends, Backup Exec, Sonicwall CDP, EVAULT, LIVEVAULT, DPS, ETC.)
